Straight Laced
Straight Laced was Ms. Faulkner's senior collection at AIULA. The above clip is from the school's senior fashion show, in which she was one of 24 students chosen to participate. The collection itself is a sexy update of business suits, with slight inspiration from the 1940s, worn with corsets. The fabrics used were primarily of natural fibers: silk, cotton, and wool. Most fabrics were from S. Rimmon Imported Fabrics, where Ms. Faulkner was working at that time. The prints are variations on traditional menswear fabrics: tweed, herringbone, pinstripe, and houndstooth. Ms. Faulkner created all the patterns for these garments, but Roxana Nava graciously assisted with the sewing so that the deadline could be met.
