About the designer: Marianne Faulkner was born on 15 June, 1987 in Carmel, CA. She earned her BFA in Fashion Design at the American Intercontinental University Los Angeles. While there she tutored her fellow students in illustration and pattern drafting, and was chosen to participate in the senior fashion show. She plans next to pursue an MFA. Her father, William Faulkner, plays Jalisco harp and teaches at Hartnell College, and her mother teaches Spanish for Spanish Speakers. She also has one sister and two cats. Beyond fashion, she enjoys fantasy books, ballroom dance, studying foreign languages, and a wide range of music, from the Andrews Sisters to 雅-miyavi-.
the illustrations: Ms. Faulkner's illustrative style is heavily influenced by vintage pin-up art and Japanese comics. She enjoys studying anatomy; her figures are more realistic than those in traditional fashion illustration. Copic brand alcohol markers are her primary medium; however, she hopes to learn more about both digital and fine art. (She recently purchased a Wacom Cintiq tablet, and also wishes to learn to oil paint.)
the designs: Ms. Faulkner seeks to bring femininity back to American style. Though she has a special interest in corsets, she also believes that one can dress well and still be comfortable. She has declared war on blue jeans, as most people who wear them will not be doing any prospecting. Aside from these traits, there is also an element of whimsy characteristic to her designs. Her style philosophy is that fashion should be about self-expression first, and all other factors second.
the name: POP Antique represents Ms. Faulkner's work by bringing together a playful, modern element with references to bygone eras for a result that is neither dated nor derivative.
