About

The Designer: Marianne Faulkner was born in 1987, in the small coastal town of Carmel, CA. Her parents were a musician and a high school Spanish teacher, who encouraged both intellectualism and creativity in their children. Even at a very young age, Marianne loved to draw and it was accepted as fact that she would grow up to be a fashion designer. Her interest in corsetry was first sparked as a teenager, when she surrounded herself with fantasy novels and theater buffs.

She began attending community college full-time at the age of 15, then transferred in 2005 to The American Intercontinental University Los Angeles to complete her BFA in fashion design. While studying, she discovered she wanted to continue in the family tradition of teaching. To that end, she tutored her fellow students in illustration, pattern drafting, and construction. Marianne's first mini collection walked the runway at the school's senior show in 2007, and Pop Antique was born. In December of 2011, she completed her MFA in Fashion Design at San Francisco's renowned Academy of Art University. Marianne plans to teach Fashion Illustration as well as expanding her line.

The Designs: Launched in 2007, Pop Antique is an eclectic, feminine daywear line with a focus on sustainable design and innovative corsets. The name represents Marianne's work by bringing together a playful, modern element with references to bygone eras for a result that is neither dated nor derivative. Taking cues from specialty fashion scenes, she interprets them in a way that is accessible for mainstream and subculture fashionistas alike. Pop Antique's characteristic sophisticated whimsy is the product of Marianne's design philosophy that fashion exists primarily as a form of self-expression. For all that the line is known for its quirky corsetry, there is also a practical element to the designs. Pop Antique strives to provide the most comfortable corsets available as ready to wear.

Pop Antique's corset line is Underpinned™ by industry powerhouse Dark Garden Unique Corsetry, with a fresh look and fit backed by their years of experience and high-quality materials. The new line also features a strong emphasis on organic and eco-fibers, with all corsets made of an organic cotton base, and eco-conscious fashion fabrics available as well. Pop Antique is based out of San Francisco, CA, and 5% of the selling price of each corset goes to local animal shelters.
