About
The Designer: I was born on 15 June, 1987 in Carmel, CA. I earned my BFA in Fashion Design at the American Intercontinental University Los Angeles. While there I tutored my fellow students in illustration, pattern drafting, and construction, and was chosen to participate in the senior fashion show. I am currently in the MFA Fashion Design program at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
The Illustrations: My illustrative style is heavily influenced by vintage pin-up art and Japanese comics. I enjoy studying anatomy; my figures are more realistic than those in traditional fashion illustration. Copic brand alcohol markers are my primary medium; however, I hope to learn more about both digital and fine art. (I recently purchased a Wacom Cintiq tablet, and also wish to learn to oil paint.)
The Designs: I seek to bring femininity back to American style. Though I have a special interest in corsets, I also believe that one can dress well and still be comfortable. In two words, I would say my style is "sophisticated whimsy." My style philosophy is that fashion should be about self-expression first, and all other factors second.
The Name: POP Antique represents my work by bringing together a playful, modern element with references to bygone eras for a result that is neither dated nor derivative.
